The method for the loading and transporting of lorries on a railway wagon entails introducing the lorry (6) in the loaded or unloaded state into a special container (5) which by means of lifting equipment, and especially a crane (1), is lifted onto a railway wagon. The container is secured against relative movement in the railway wagon. The loading of the container with the lorry is carried out so that the lorry can be driven through the front and/or rear wall acting as a door into the stowed position. A run-up ramp is connected to the container to facilitate entering of the lorry. An independent claim is included for a device for the loading and transporting of lorries on railway wagons.
