The load-limiting jaw clamp has two pivoting (F) spring-loaded jaws (G1,G2) with curved toothed surfaces (L) which can grip a rope. Each jaw is mounted on a rectangular baseplate (C) which has two L-shaped slots (E) for pins (D) on a large square main baseplate (A). Recesses (H) in the baseplates accommodate springs which allow the jaw clamp baseplates to move longitudinally and then outward to release the jaws and let the rope run free if a given load is exceeded.
