An upper beam which may be cranked in the middle supports the dashboard. Its ends are fastened to the A-pillars of the vehicle body. The lower beam is fastened to the A-pillars and has a flexible central region (19) and a left-hand side region (23) with a fastening (34,35) for a fixed tube (33) enclosing the steering column. There is a holding lug (36) and an adjustment system (38) on the lower beam.
