The method involves detecting tire (1) vibrations and evaluating at least one vibration characteristic, especially a frequency spectrum and/or a time domain spectrum by evaluating data using physical and/or phenomenological model approach, observing evaluation signals in at least two frequency bands, comparing signal amplitudes with friction value-dependent empirical values also dependent on a current force transfer condition of the tire, deriving a friction value and driving a maximum available force for transfer from the tire to the road (5).
