A mailing machine feeds a quasi-continuous supply of mailing covers to a point at which the cover is arrested and held in open presentation. A secondary quasi-continuous supply of mail inserts is delivered by a transport system to and inserted in the mailing cover. The supply of inserts is maintained by a downwards-directed chain drive or belt drive system, to a sprocket or pulley wheel.
