A simple design for a super finishing machine for round column shaped workpieces has the workpiece supported between two horizontal rollers separated by a gap. The rollers rotate in the same direction and cause the workpiece to rotate in the opposite direction. The axial profile of the rollers provides a number of convex support points. The rollers are at a slight angle to each other so that the workpiece is moved axially while rotating. At the same time a fine grinding/polishing head (4) is pressed onto the workpiece.
