The use of a hydroxystilbene (I) in compositions to decrease the process of glycation, especially collagen and other protein glycation in the skin, hair, and nails. (I) may be a mono-, di-, tri- tetra-, penta- or hexa-hydroxy stilbene, such as 4'-hydroxy stilbene, 2',4'-dihydroxy stilbene, 2',4',4-trihydroxy stilbene, 2,4,4',5-tetrahydroxy stilbene, 3,3',4',5,5'-pentahydroxy stilbene, and 2,2',4,4',6,6'-hexahydroxy stilbene. The preferred stilbene is 3,4',5-trihydroxy stilbene or resveratrol. Compositions preferably contain 0.001 - 10% by weight, especially 0.005 - 5% by weight of (I).
