The device has an airbag (32) deployed at the exterior of a motor vehicle for covering a fender-hood junction. The airbag deforms a fender (12) and/or a hood (10), during its deployment, to increase clearance and to create a passage between an edge (18) of the hood and an edge (16) of the fender. A fixation unit fixes the fender to a piece of structure (30) of the vehicle.
