The process involves drilling temporary holes (3-9) having diameter lower than the size of a final hole. The drilled holes are enlarged for modifying its shape and/or its dimension. The peripheral surface of each hole is rectified by grinding it with the help of relative movements between a plate and a grindstone. The plate is fixed on a support comprising an edge parallel to the plate. An independent claim is also included for a component in hard crystalline material such as in plate or bridge made-up of sapphire, obtained by a component manufacturing process.
