The process comprises inserting an electrode (11) with a threaded surface into a bore (2) of predetermined dimensions, and machining threads on the inner surface of the bore by electro-erosion as the electrode travels in an orbital motion inside it, and with the machining parameters regulated with each pass. The passes are all carried out by a single electrode, and the shape and dimensions of the electrode threads are determined so as to take into account their wear during the machining process and to achieve the required thread dimensions in the bore.
