PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tail seal method for a shield machine, which can prevent the consolidation of a back-filling material, even if the back-filling material is sucked into a closed space between wire brush seals, and the shield machine suitable for the practice of the tail seal method.;SOLUTION: A tail seal mechanism 10 comprises an annular elastic bodies 11a, 11b and 11c with flexibility, which can freely abut on an outer surface of a segment tubular body 7, and sealants 9a and 9b which are infilled among the annular elastic bodies 11a, 11b and 11c. The mechanism 10 is concurrently provided with a consolidation-preventing-material injecting mechanism 20 for injecting a back-filling-material consolidation preventing material, used for delaying or inhibiting the consolidation of the back-filling material, or melting the consolidated back-filling material, into the sealant 9a. The consolidation preventing material is injected into the sealant 9a while an excavated pit is formed or during an interval between the formations of the excavated pits. Additionally, the annular elastic bodies 11a, 11b and 11c are formed of a plurality of brush bodies, and the brush bodies are impregnated with the sealant.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
