PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately and quickly conduct tilt detection and disk profiling measurement for each of a plurality of recording layers of a two layer disk and a multi-layer disk.;SOLUTION: A tilt detecting device is provided with a first changing means which changes the converging position of laser light beams to the lamination layer direction of a recording layer, a second changing means which changes the converging position of the laser light beams along a radial direction and a tilt detecting means which detects the amount of tilt based on the received light signals. Then, the first and the second changing means are controlled, the light converging position is set to the position of a j-th (where j is a natural number) of one recording layer and the amount of tilt at that position is detected. Then, the converging position is set to another recording layer by controlling the first changing means while the radial direction is unchanged to detect the amount of tilt of the j-th position of the other recording layer.
