PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a character direction identification device capable of achieving character direction identification processing at high speed without increasing the calculation load or storage capacity. According to this, since the character direction of the character direction identification object line is classified by the arrangement information of rectangles per line, the character direction identification processing can be performed at high speed without increasing the calculation load or storage capacity.
