PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a system and method for dynamically limiting a total colorant coverage in a color rendering system. PSOLUTION: A subtractive color rendering method includes the steps of: specifying a first area of a cube representing the quantity of a plurality of colorants to include the combination of all colorants exceeding a limit for the total colorant coverage; specifying a second area of the cube to include the combination of all the colorants within the limit of the total colorant coverage; specifying a reference point in the second area to specify a third area included fully in the second area of the cube; using a color arithmetically processed by the color rendering system when an input color is in one of the first area and the third area; and converting the input color in the first area into an arithmetically processed color in the third area in a bijection manner.
