PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating material composition for a metal can outside surface, capable of forming a coating film layer having excellent design nature and high durability, and to provide a metal can having the coating film layer consisting of the coating material composition. PSOLUTION: The coating material composition for the outside surface of three-piece metal cans contains a binder resin component containing (A) a polyester resin not containing a raw material derived from a bisphenol and (B) a curing agent, (C) a color flip-flop pigment obtained by coating the surface of silicon dioxide flakes with a metal oxide and further carrying out the surface treatment with a silane coupling agent and a zirconium oxide, and (D) an isobutyl acrylate homopolymer having a number average mol. wt. of 5,000-10,000.
