PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain expansion of a permitted width of the wavelength of inputted laser light, in a wavelength transformation element adopting a quasi-phase matching system.;SOLUTION: Since the wavelength transformation element is provided with a wavelength transformation part 4 having a plurality of optical waveguides 9a to 9e formed in parallel on the surface of a nonlinear optical material 2 and polarization inversion regions 10a to 10e separately formed so that polarization inversion periods are made to differ for every optical waveguides 9a to 9e, quasi-phase matching conditions are made to differ for every optical waveguide 9a to 9e and stable wavelength transformation can be performed on average by the polarization inversion regions 10a to 10e of the optical wave guides 9a to 9e. Thereby, expansion of permitted width of the wavelength of the inputted laser light can be attained in the wavelength transformation element adopting the quasi-phase matching system.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
