The method and equipment are for transmission of data and involve the use of a reference data collection, in which a first collection of numbers is present in a first number system, each number from which is coupled to a unique code out of a collection of such codes in another number system. The data is converted to a first series of numbers, all selected from the first series of numbers. The first series of numbers is compared with the first collection of numbers and each number from the first series is replaced by a corresponding unique code. Thus, a series of unique codes is formed. The unique series of codes is transmitted. The equipment involved includes a computer (1) with a processor (2) connected to memory components involving a hard disk (5), a read only memory (7), an electrically erasable programmable read only memory (9) and a random access memory (11). Not all these memory types have necessarily to be present. Input instructions are incorporated in the processor, such as a keyboard (13) and a mouse (15). It is also possible to have available a touch screen, a track ball and/or a speech convertor. A reading unit (17) is connected to the processor, capable of reading data stored on a floppy disk (19) or a compact disk read only memory (21). The processor is also connected with a printer (23) and a reproduction unit (3), preferably a monitor or liquid crystal display screen. The processor is also connected with a communication network (27) by means of input/output devices (25).
