Procedure for waterproofing surfaces of porous ceramic materials, especially suitable for construction materials such as unglazed tiles and face-view bricks, based on the reduction of the porosity of said surfaces by structural modification by vitrification of the surface layer of the ceramic material, as a result of the application of laser radiation, pulsed or continuous, to the surface previously impregnated with a precursor chemical solution of glass-forming oxides, and of adequate viscosity and surface tension to penetrate the ceramic material, and thereby produce a decrease of the water absorption capacity of said surface layer of the ceramic material.
