A fixed frame has rolling elements supporting a swing frame with a rest surface for a patient. A belt and pulley mechanism transmits torque from an electric motor to a rod and crank mechanism, which in turn converts the rotational motion of the pulley into linear motion for the swing frame. The distance between moving points of the rod relative to the pulley axis is variable, allowing rate of displacement of the swing frame to be regulated.
