A pencil type glow plug (1; 101) for an internal combustion engine comprises essentially a housing (8; 108) and a connection bolt arranged in the housing (8; 108), as well as a ceramic glow plug (3; 103) which can be brought into contact with the connection bolt and has one side (2; 102) which protrudes into the combustion chamber.
