A method for realizing the switch operation of the many to many ring network. The method includes the steps of that: first, the switch request of the protection switch of the M:N ring network, the destination node of the switch request, the source node of the switch request, the identify of the long path or the short path, the state of the switch bridge connection , the path number of work path which is protected and the information of usage of the protected path are determined, and they are transmitted in the ring network by caring them in the signaling; then, after the ring network node received the signaling, for protection it can switch the M:N ring network based on the information carried by the signaling. Therefor, the format of the APS protocol signaling provided by this invention comprises various information which is necessary for switch protection, at the same time, this invention provides a reasonable and effective transmission mode of APS protocol signaling used for protection switch, and so as to proceed the corresponding protection switch successfully, and improve the reliability of the ring network.
