The device has an arrangement for classifying a signal and an arrangement for deciding whether the signal is a voice signal or not depending on the class into which the signal is classified. The number of classes is more than 10, especially greater than or equal to 64. The classes are clustered into especially self-organized clusters. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) a biometric method of using an inventive device (b) a method of generating a class representation to detect whether a voice signal is present or not (c) a computer program product for a data processing system for implementing the inventive methods.
