A map information update device includes: an imaging unit (101) for imaging a portion around a vehicle; an extraction unit (102) for extracting at least one of a road traffic sign, an information image on a road, and an image of facility around the road as an image associated with information contained in map information from the video around the vehicle acquired by the imaging unit (101); a comparison/verification unit (103) for comparing and verifying information expressed by the image extracted by the extraction unit (102) and information contained in the map information; and an update unit (104) for updating the map information according to the comparison/verification result obtained by the comparison/verification unit (103).
