FIELD: electrolyzers for production of aluminum; method of conversion of standard electrolyzers equipped with consumable anodes into electrolyzers with inert anodes.;SUBSTANCE: proposed method includes extraction of at least one consumable carbon anode of electrolyzer and replacement of it by inert electrode. Replacement of electrode is performed in working mode. Inert anode or inert anode sets are preliminarily heated before introducing them into operating electrolyzer to temperature close to melt bath temperature of electrolyzer.
