Process for the recovery and disposal of sewage sludge or waterworks sludge

Process for utilisation of clarifier and waterworks sludge comprises mixing the sludge with raw materials used in the iron, steel or foundry industries in such proportions that the max. tolerance values in the end prod. are not exceeded due to the foreign substances introduced with the clarifier or waterworks sludge or their ash. The sludge may be mixed with, e.g., synthetic raw materials produced from waste prods. to form case hardening cpds. which may be pulverised, sintered into shaped bodies or formed into pellets or briquettes. The dimensional stability of the shaped bodies may be increased, e.g., by incorporating a binder which may additionally serve for metallurgical slag formation. The shaped bodies pref. contain a proportion of sludge that compensates the energy used for heating and melting the body with the heat generated by the exothermic reaction of the sludge.
