Method for determining the wind velocity vector (vW) in a fixed terrestrial coordinate system (x, y, z) from a flying aircraft (10) in which the wind vector relative to the aircraft is determined using a hot-wire or hot- film anemometer and the fixed wind vector is determined by subtraction of the aircraft velocity. An independent claim is made for a device for determining the wind velocity vector in a terrestrial coordinate system comprising a hot-wire or hot-film anemometer and a GPS position system for the aircraft.
