The glass or glass/ceramic plate, e.g. for domestic cooking appliances, has a colored coating wholly or partially over its surface as a sol-gel network with coloring pigments. The pigments are contained within a chemically inert and colorless metal oxide shroudings to prevent a catalytic reaction between the pigments and the sol-gel base solution.
