Cationic diagonally cross linked copolymer (I) (obtained by copolymerisation of (A) at least one monomer A, monomer B, at least doubly unsaturated monomer C, which is copolymerisable with monomers A and B, where in the copolymer, the quantity of B and C is 35-99 wt.% and 0.5-10 wt.%, respectively related to total weight amounts of A and B) is new. Cationic diagonally cross linked copolymer (I) (obtained by copolymerisation of (A) at least one monomer A of formula (H2C=C(R1)-C(=O)-X-R3), monomer B of formula (H2C=C(R1)-C(=O)-X-(CH2)n-N+(R4)(R6)-(R5) (Y-) and at least doubly unsaturated monomer C, which is copolymerisable with monomers A and B, where in the copolymer, the quantity of B and C is 35-99 wt.% and 0.5-10 wt.%, respectively related to total weight amounts of A and B) is new. R1H or CH3; X : O or NR2; R2H or 1-6C alkyl; and R31-12C alkyl; n : 1-8; R4-R61-8C alkyl, each carry one hydroxy- or amino group; and X : halo or mono alkyl sulfate. Independent claims are also included for: (1) the preparation of (I); (2) agent for the treatment of keratinic fibers comprising at least (I); and (3) a method for improving the physical characteristics of keratinic fibers, comprising applying a agent in an effective quantity on the fibers.
