A fork lift truck has a fork prong attached to a lifting spar by a countersunk nut, and threaded stud extending from the lifting spar. The interface between the fork root and lifting spar has a void that is filled by a flexible bung (6) held under permanent compression. When the fork is under load, the bung expands to fill the gap that forms between fork root and lifting spar.
