The pane (1) has functional units (2) integrated through electrical control in a multi-layer compound, in one portion of its surface. The functional units are divided into three segments (6) of the surface, which lie within a field of vision (3) of a vehicle passenger. The surface segments can be made dark either individually or fully, according to the level of glare sensed by a sensor. An independent claim is also included for a method of steering a functional unit implemented in a transparent pane e.g. vehicle windshield, as electrochrome solid body surface unit.
