Continuous production of a liquid fertilizer with a defined nitrogen and sulfur content, comprising urea (U), ammonium nitrate (AN), ammonium sulfate (AS) and water (W), comprises mixing an AN-U-W solution with ammonia, water and sulfuric acid in amounts controlled in response to the pH, density and refractive index of the product. - Continuous production of a liquid fertilizer with a defined nitrogen and sulfur content, comprising urea (U), ammonium nitrate (AN), ammonium sulfate (AS) and water (W), comprises mixing an AN-U-W solution with ammonia (A), with water, with a first recycle stream (S1) comprising U, AN, AS, A and W in an amount at least 2 times the amount of fertilizer to be produced and with 60-95% of the stoichiometric amount of sulfuric acid (SA); cooling the mixture to 40-80 deg. C; splitting the mixture into S1 and a residual stream (R1); mixing R1 with a second recycle stream (S2) in an amount 0.5-3 times the amount of fertilizer to be produced and with the rest of the SA; splitting the mixture into S2 and a product stream (P1); continuously measuring the pH, density and refractive index of P1; controlling the amount of A added to give a final pH of 7-9; and controlling the amounts of AN-U-W solution, A and SA and W added in response to the density and refractive index. - ACTIVITY - Fertilizer.
