The cover device for a load holding space of a motor vehicle (3) has several movably interconnected cover elements which are adjustable from an in-use position into a stowed position (5), whereby the cover elements in the latter position lie approximately parallel one against the other. The cover elements in the stowed position are movable from out of the loading region of the load holding space floor (9). The cover elements are connected to the vehicle by a hinged connection (7) and can be pivoted from the in-use position into the stowed position which extends in a vertical and/or horizontal plane.
