The injector has a piezo actuator (14) in a housing to operate a fuel injection valve. A contact assembly (16) connected with contacts (15) of the actuator for electrical contacting of the actuator over an axial line arrangement extending between the assembly and the actuator. The arrangement is formed on an axial connection part (24) inserted between the assembly and actuator and has welding lugs (30) welded with the contacts. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing a fuel injector for an internal combustion engine.
