The open top plastic vessel has a U-section clamping ring of metal for the fastening of the lid to the upper rim of the vessel. An annular bead (20) is formed on the connecting member (19) of the upper and lower leg (7,9) of the clamping ring and is orientated radially inwards. With the clamping ring closed, the annular bead acts in a positive locking manner on the outer edge (15) of the lid (4) to secure it on the upper rim (6) of the vessel. An engagement slot (21) is formed in the outer edge of the lid to accommodate the annular bead on the clamping ring.
