The method involves opening a connection (7) between the pressure side of the pressure generator (5), which is driven by internal combustion engine (1), and another pressure connection (8a) after starting of internal combustion engine. The air compressed by the pressure generator flows into the compensation tank (8). The connection remains open till the system pressure in the compensation tank recorded by the pressure sensor (9) attains the predetermined value and after reaching the predetermined value the connection is closed. An independent claim is also included for the arrangement for the rapid build-up of the system pressure in the air cooling circuit.
