The method involves separate determination of the dynamic storage capacity for intake of oxygen in oxygen accumulator and dynamic storage capacity for discharge of oxygen from oxygen accumulator. The conversion performed concerning oxidation of the pollutants is determined on the basis of the dynamic storage capacity for discharge of oxygen.
