The device has profiled strips (1'') of rectangular cross section which can be brought into engagement with one another at intervals matching the dimensions of the plates (8,8') being laid by criss crossing one another through recesses (4c) so that the profiled strips form one plane and serve as the supporting parts (2) for the plates. Cross-shaped spacers (14) fit in the gaps (9) between the plates to set the spacing between the plates. T-shaped spacers can be used for the edge regions.
