The method involves guiding a chain (4) in a guiding system and driving the chain using a drive. The force acting on the chain is determined as time-released sequence of measured values by determination of drive moment of the drive using a torque sensor. The forces acting on individual chain links are determined by assigning the measured values to the geometry of the guiding system.
