The method involves accessing a regulating unit for influencing a fuel pressure for the purpose of increasing the pressure during a starting process, and beginning controlling of an internal combustion engine with beginning of the starting process. The beginning of the starting process is recognized on the basic of a signal for controlling a starter if the signal for a revolution sensor exceeds a threshold value. An independent claim is also included for a device for controlling an internal combustion engine.
