The method involves transferring authentication data of a person to a chip card (1) and receiving the data by the card and alienates. The alienated authentication data is transferred to a correcting device for error correction. An error corrected un-alienated authentication data is reconstructed from the alienated data by safety application. The person is authenticated based on the un-alienated data and reference authentication data. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a computer program product for acting as a safety application on a chip card (2) an authenticating system for authenticating a person.
