The method involves using an electrical charge present in a sensor (10.6) as a measure for concentration of a oxidizable or reducable gas or vapor present in surrounding atmosphere of the sensor, where the charge is varied in gas or vapor dependent manner. The charge is evaluated by an evaluation circuit. The sensor is charged by a voltage supply so that the charge is developed in an operating layer of the sensor. An independent claim is also included for a device for measuring gas or vapor concentration.
