The sensor system for protecting operators of a press for metal sheet comprises a photoreceptor (23) which detects a beam (25) from a source (21) and sends signals to a control unit (61) which stop the press if the beam is interrupted. A receiver (63) for commands from a radio transmitter (65) is also connected to the control unit and allows the parameters within which the system operates to be modified. An independent claim is included for a method for setting the operating parameters of the sensor system.
