The mechanical device is for the monitoring of back pressures in exhaust gas systems, whereby for the mechanical sensing and indication of the back pressure the exhaust flow exerts pressure on or more springs. The spring pressure can be adjustable, and the springs may be provided with a damper. The springs can be manufactured from various materials, preferably metal, and can be of different types, preferably helical springs. The indicator may be a movable pin with preferably coloured marks.
