The method for the recognition of a time point of engaging of a clutch connected to a driving engine entails carrying out a test to see whether a torque (M) produced by the engine lies in at least one predetermined range. The method involves determining a rate of change of the engine RPM, and establishing engagement if the rate of change of the RPM (n) exceeds a predetermined first threshold value (n1,n2). The threshold value is determined in dependence upon the range in which lies the torque produced by the driving engine. Independent claims are also included for the following: (A) a device to carry out the method for the recognition of a time point of engaging of a clutch connected to a driving engine; and (B) an arrangement for the assisting of a driver of a vehicle when starting the vehicle.
