The method involves providing several linecards (4, 5, 6), a main linecard e.g. trunk card (2), and aggregate communication channels. The communication channels stays in connection with the line cards. The line cards and the main linecard that are connected with each other processes data packets. The packets are processed by other linecards that are not overloaded on detecting overloading of the packets in the linecard. An independent claim is also included for a communication device for load distribution in a packet oriented communication network.
