The device has an association for standardization of automation and measurement system/open diagnostic data exchange (ASAM/ODX) file (2) and a test unit (3) for accessing a controller (4). A converter (1) is provided that reads an error code set from a standardized ASAM/ODX file and converts the error code set into a format of the test unit. The converter accesses the ASAM/ODX file by data lines or radio communication. An independent claim is also included for a method for testing of error code set and/or reset condition.
