The device includes a radar sensor (4) installed in front of a vehicle (1) and having a large detection range (5) approximately corresponding to the width of a road lane (3), and another set of sensors (6) also installed in front of the vehicle and having a smaller detection range compared to the radar sensor. The detection ranges of all sensors overlap (11) each other and reach a neighboring lane. The sensors (6) have sensor coverage areas (9,10) that detect the light reflection caused by an object or another vehicle (2) on the neighboring lane.
