Claimed is a hydrogel-based immobilization and reaction matrix (I) for biosensor chips, where the hydrogel comprises: (i) a copolymerization reaction product comprising (a) a mixture of (meth)acrylamide and bis(meth)acrylamide; (b) acrydite- or (meth)acrylamide-modified capture molecule; and (c) a polymerization starter; and (ii) optional conventional hydrogel additives. Claimed is a hydrogel-based immobilization- and reaction matrix (I) for biosensor chips, where the hydrogel comprises: (i) a copolymerization reaction product comprising: (a) a mixture of (meth)acrylamide and bis(meth)acrylamide in a ratio of 20:1-45:1, based on weight, and having a final concentration of 3-15 vol.%, based on the total volume of the hydrogel; (b) acrydite- or (meth)acrylamide-modified capture molecule at a concentration of 0.001 pM to 100 mM, based on the total volume of the hydrogel; and (c) a polymerization starter at a concentration of 0.001-10 vol.-%, based on the total volume of the hydrogel; and (ii) optional conventional hydrogel additives. An independent claim is also included for a biosensor chip.
