A method for detecting and removal of small insulated fragments in a segmented 3 - d - volume is disclosed. The segmented 3 - d - volume is to a plurality of 2 - d - images projected from different viewing directions. An isolated 2 - d - fragments are in the 2 - d - images detected. Corresponding 3 - d - fragments are in the 3 - d - volume found in that the corresponding detected 2 - d - fragment positions projection signals. The re-projected 2 - d - fragment positions are used as seed points for area growth in front of gears of insulated 3 - d - fragments used. Any desired 3 - d - fragments with a volume size below a user defined limit are discarded.
