A separator which has an internal single or double conical separation drum (1) solely rotatable on the ends of its vertical axis, a spindle (2) to drive drum (1), an inlet (4), =2 liquid outlets, one for a light phase (LP) having a hulled disc and one for a heavy phase (HP), an optional solids outlet and separator plate packet in the drum (1) further has an adjustable throttle (13) connected outside the drum (1) to the liquid outlet (12), the throttle preferably being a flat ring (19) to displace the liquid radius R(HP) to the heavy phase by altering the outlet cross-section for the heavy phase and also by throttling. An independent claim is also included for use of the separator in three-phase separation and clarification of a product in =2 liquid and 1 solid phase involving adjustment of the separation zone by single adjustment of the light phase (LP) radius by hulled disc (10) and then adjustment of the heavy phase (HP) and thereby of the separation zone by the throttle (13).
